SUMMARY:Non-Club: Walkies at Agricultural History Farm Park
DESCRIPTION:Venue: Agricultural History Farm Park. 18400 Muncaster Road Derwood\, MD 20855\nI found this lovely park as a nice central-ish spot. It’s off the beaten track in Montgomery County\, but is easily accessible and is quiet. Trails are grassy\, wide\, and nicely maintained. On the trail that I tested\, terrain is rolling with some long slow climbs and some short steepish climbs. There is one easy water crossing. There is ample parking and porta-pots are available. We need to bring our own water and any snacks. Besides hiking (and there are lots of trails!)\, there is a demonstration garden and lots of historic farm gear. \nMeeting Point: When you enter the park\, go straight down the road\, pass a gravel drive on the right\, then make the next right past the buildings and go up the hill to a shady parking lot. If that’s full\, there’s more parking lower down\, but this spot is closer to the trailhead. \nTrail: The trail that I checked out takes parts of two trails and combines them in a nice loop trail that skirts the edges of cultivated fields. It’s mostly shady\, but there are some sunny spots\, so bring a hat and sun screen. Also bug spray\, though the bugs weren’t bad. It’s a little over two miles and took me a little over an hour\, which included stopping for pictures\, and several stops to be sure that I was on the expected trail. Cell signal is a little shaky there\, so if you want to explore some of the other trails\, a printed map would be a good idea.

SUMMARY:Tricks & Games Meetup
DESCRIPTION: \n\n\n\nThis will be a great opportunity to get an AKC Trick title for your dog. If you already have a GCG\, you need only five more tricks for the NOVICE TRICK DOG TITLE. We are hoping to have one of our members\, Taryn Tipton to share her training techniques for trick dogs.\n\n \n\n\n\n \n\nWe are going to have the following games for our members and their Cardis.\nThere will be a very nice prize for the winner of each event\, and there will be no entry fees.\n\n \n\n Hot Dog Diving- Each dog will have 60 seconds to grab and munch as many hot dog pieces as possible from a shallow pool of water.\n Tee Shirt Race- Each handler is given a tee shirt. When the game begins\, the handler must put the shirt over the dog’s head\, the front paws through the sleeves. Then the two must race to the finish line. \n Musical Mats- Mats are placed in a circle with one fewer mat than the number of dogs. When the music starts\, the dogs and handlers march around the mats. When the music stops\, the dogs and handlers race to an available mat. A dog without a mat is out. The last team with a mat wins.\n\nFor More Information\, contact: Kyrie Garretson at kyrieg@me.com\n\n \n\nThese games provide laughter and fun for Cardis and humans. Hope to see you on Saturday.\n\nPlease bring your own lunch\, water will be provided. Volunteers needed for Set Up and Clean Up\n\n \nAKC Trick Dog Checklist: Novice [PDF]

SUMMARY:Barn Hunt
DESCRIPTION:**This event is not affiliated with the CCWCC and is provided only for informational purposes to our members. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the event\, please contact the Event Organizer(s). ** \nSaturday\, September 20th – Sunday 21st \n\n\n\nTalbot Kennel Club Trial\n\n\nSpring Cove Farm\n200 Spring Cove Farm Lane\nQueenstown\, MD 21617\n\n\n\nJudges: Jo-Ann Frier-Murza\, Crosswicks\, NJ \nJudy Todd\, Skillman\, NJ \nContact: email: Blair kelly 443-306-0396 \n  \nThe purpose of Barn Hunt is to demonstrate a dog’s vermin hunting ability in finding and marking rats in a “barn-like” setting\, using straw/hay bales to introduce climbing and tunneling obstacles in the dog’s path. Barn Hunt is based on the skills historically used by itinerant “ratcatchers” in traveling the countryside\, ridding farms of vermin\, thus helping conserve and preserve food grains and cutting down on disease. \nWhile ratcatchers often used breeds such as Jack/Parson Russell Terriers\, they also used other non go-to-ground breeds such as Manchester Terriers\, Rat Terriers\, and a variety of breeds and mixes of small to medium size. Some breeds have never had an officially licensed test which truly emulates their traditional working task. Barn Hunt will fill that role. \nBarn Hunt is also for any breed or mix of dog who loves to hunt and who can fit through an 18” wide gap between two hay bales. It will test speed\, agility\, and surefootedness. While not specifically targeted at larger dogs or dogs without a vermin hunting history\, Barn Hunt is all inclusive and fun for any dog and human who wishes to play the game. \nBarn Hunt is a sporting event\, and as such there will be levels of difficulty\, titles\, and championships to be attained. While it can be used as an instinct test\, there is also a handler component in that the handler must signal when the dog has reached the desired target PVC rat tube; thus\, the handler must know and have a partnership with their dog. Teamwork will win the game. \nBarn Hunt can be held indoors or outdoors\, in a barn-like setting or on any piece of level ground that can be enclosed securely by gating/fencing. \nAs a sporting event\, all participants in Barn Hunt are expected to operate within a code of good sportsmanship. No punitive or corrective training is allowed on trial grounds. Any handler who verbally or physically abuses his or her dog either in or out of the ring can face discipline from dismissal from class to dismissal from show grounds and expulsion from future events\, depending on the severity of the action. Any handler who displays lack of sportsmanship toward the judge\, stewards\, or fellow competitors can also face disciplinary action. Barn Hunt is a family sport and should be treated as such. Curse words uttered during the dog’s hunt will mean an instant Non-Qualifying run. \nAt all times\, the safety of the dogs\, handlers\, and rats is to be of paramount importance. Rats will be humanely handled and safely confined in aerated PVC tubes; Barn Hunt is not intended to harm or kill rats.
