New This Year – Shawn Michael will be offering a handling class from 10:30 to 11:00- Free

Obedience classes to begin at 11:00 followed by lunch at noon with a general meeting at 12:30.

Conformation classes will begin at 1:00PM.

WE WILL HAVE SOME VERY NICE PRIZES!

We would like to encourage our “pet” Cardis to “try their paws” at subnovice obedience.  All of the  exercises are on lead. If your dog has had a basic obedience class and knows basic commands you will have no trouble. The exercises are as follows:

  1. Stand for an examination by the judge( Handler tells the dog to stay and then walks to the end of the six foot lead. Judge touches the dog. Handler returns to the dog.)
  2. Heel on leash( Dog moves by the handler’s side and sits when the handler stops.)
  3. Figure 8 on leash ( The dog will perform a figure eight around two people standing eight feet apart.)
  4. Recall ( Handler tells the dog to stay, walks to the end of the leash and then calls him/her. Dog sits in front and then is told to go to the heel position.)

The next two exercises are performed as a group.

  1. Sit and stay for I minute ( Dog sits and is told to stay. Handler walks to the end of the leash and faces the dog. At the end of 1 minute the handler returns to the dog.)
  2. Down and stay for 3 minutes( Dog lies down and is told to stay. Handler walks to the end of the leash and faces the dog. At the end of 3 minutes the handler returns to the dog.)

The Novice Level is a bit more difficult and would be great practice for those considering showing their dogs in an AKC Obedience event.

  1. Heel On Lead and Figure 8
  2. Stand for examination ( off lead)
  3. Heel free ( off lead)
  4. Recall ( off lead)
  5. Long sit ( off lead)
  6. Long down ( off lead)

THIS IS A MATCH! THE GOAL IS TO HAVE FUN WHILE SHOWING YOUR DOG!

It’s Our 20th Anniversary!

This year, the CCWCC celebrates it’s 20th. anniversary. The club was formed after a get together of four Cardigan fanciers who had met to view a litter of puppies. The conversations led to a remark about the lack of a local club and it was decided to try to fill that void with forming one of our own. Our goals were as one: to have a fellowship of Cardigan owners who wished to share their knowledge and experiences of these great dogs. Those four founding members were Pam Allen, Debbie Moore, Cathy Ochs-Cline and Shirley Hobbs.

An awful lot of work was involved in getting this club started, but due to the efforts of Debbie, who served as our president for many years, the task was accomplished. We still have to abide by AKC regulations and provide activities and education on a regular basis, this is achieved through our Match, meetings, Specialties, and the other fun stuff the board tries to offer you.

Our club has offered in the past, herding, obedience, agility, lure coursing, tracking and barn hunt demonstrations. These will be ongoing as the opportunity arises. Also, of course our Regional Specialty covers the conformation venue.

It has been a hard and sometimes difficult task to keep the club going and try to find interests for the membership. On that note, if anyone has an idea or helpful thought on how to better serve the club and it’s followers, please , do not hesitate to come forward, we are always open to suggestions.

Attached, you will see a photo of the founding members of the CCWCC, pictured here at the inaugural meeting; Pam Allen, Ruth Barrish, Sherry Caldwell, Aggie de la Garza, Rachel Doggett, Kim Fitzgerald (Moshlak), Susan Francis Haughton, Tom Haughton, Shirley Hobbs, Debbie Moore, Cathy Ochs-Cline, Jan Prichard, Brett Skipper, Donna Smith, (Plummer), Ed and Nancy Jo Warczak, Sue Whaley, and Peter Wolf. and ‘Tuppence’ in the foreground.
